Volunteers help ensure our end of season 5K celebration is possible. Interested in volunteering at our upcoming 5K event? Please complete our 5K Volunteer Form. A description of each volunteer role is listed below.

We need volunteers for the following activities to ensure our event is a success!

  • Packet Pick-Up - 5/16 from 4-6pm, GOTR Office
Come hang out with us in the office for a couple hours while we give out race bags to 5K participants.
  • Early Set-Up - 5/17 from 7:30-9am, LLCC
If you're a sunrise kind of person, join us early for race set-up. You could be moving cones, hanging signs, setting up tables, and more!
  • Volunteer Check-In - 5/17 from 8-10am, LLCC
Help us get the rest of our volunteers checked in and sent where they need to go!
  • Race Day Registration - 5/17 from 8-10am, LLCC
Many of our community 5K participants register the day of the race. You'll be the one helping them get signed up and giving them a race bag.
  • Packet Pick-Up - 5/17 from 8:30-10am, LLCC
Hand out race bags to individuals who have pre-registered...and help get them excited to run!
  • First Aid - 5/17 from 9-11:45am, LLCC (RESERVED FOR LLCC NURSING STUDENTS)
Safety is our number one priority, but sometimes we still get a few scraped knees and twisted ankles. Hand out bandaids and ice and help our girls feel cared for! Medical or first aid experience preferred.
  • Happy Hair - 5/17 from 8:45-10:15am, LLCC
Our girls LOVE this station. Make our race a little bit more vibrant by decking out runners in colorful hair spray.
  • Tattoo Station - 5/17 from 8:45-10:15am, LLCC
Another popular pick for our girls! Help get the runner jazzed up and ready to go by applying temporary tattoos.
  • Spirit Station - 5/17 from 8:30-10:30am, LLCC
From cowbells to beads, you will assist in selling all the accessories for our spectators and cheer teams.
  • Photographer - 5/17 from 8:30-11:30am, LLCC
Are you a photographer? We would love to have you capture all the fun, crazy, and victorius moments of the day!
  • Food Tent - 5/17 from 8:30-12pm, LLCC
When our girls finish the 5K, they are tired, hungry, but HAPPY. Keep those smiles on their faces by helping us hand out water and snacks after they cross the finish line.
  • Cheer Team/Course Marshal - 5/17 from 9-12p, LLCC
Are you an encourager? Then this job is for YOU! Make sure participants know which way to run AND cheer them to the finish line!
  • Water Stop/On-Course First Aid - 5/17 from 9:30-12pm, LLCC
Hang out at our hydrations station and hand out cups of water halfway through the race course while also being available just in case someone gets a scrape along the way.
  • Race Sweeper - 5/17 from 9:30-12pm, LLCC
We never want any of our girls to finish last or alone. That's where you come in! As a race sweeper you will run/walk alongside our girls, give them the positivity and encouragement they need, and cross the finish line last.
  • Finish Line Medals - 5/17 from 9:30-12pm, LLCC
You get a front row seat to seeing these girls achieve their dreams! Help us hand out medals at the finish line.
  • SAG Car Driver - 5/17 from 9:30-12pm
The SAG (supplies and gear) car follows behind the final race participant as they leave LLCC. This volunteer drives their own vehicle and is available to assist any participant who needs help. Supplies and gear will be provided by GOTR.
  • Event Tear-Down - 5/17 from 11-1pm, LLCC
When the race is all over, we need a few volunteers to help us clean everything up! We're usually out of there by 1, so it's really not bad at all!

Note: All volunteers appointed through our council must undergo a background check.

True

An official 5K course is 3.1 miles, however our current course at LLCC is 2.9 miles. Click here to view the course map.

As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

First, we understand that life happens, and circumstances might make it impossible to attend.

We strongly encourage that all participants attend and complete the 5K, as it is the goal that teams are preparing for all season long! It’s the ultimate opportunity to build confidence through accomplishment. Remember, this is the first 5K event for many – including coaches, participants, friends and family members. We are in it together!

For safety reasons, every participant must wear a race bib (provided by the council) that includes necessary medical information on the back. We also have First Aid in Race Village, as well as on the course.

To ensure every participant crosses the finish line, we monitor the course and conduct head counts. Our council has a safety plan in place, which trains staff and volunteers on how to respond during an emergency or incident.
