Spring 2015 Season Review

In May we concluded another fantastic season. 676 girls participated in the program, 45 community service projects were completed, 6,290 volunteer hours were contributed, 428 additional lives were influenced at the 5k, and 5,000 lives were impacted overall. Some of the feedback from our program girls included the following:

– I met new people, I pushed myself and I learned everyone is special.

– I liked that you not only run but learn life lessons.

– I learned that it is better to push yourself than just be in your comfort zone.

– I learned to be myself and follow my heart!

– I learned how to be kind to other people and share my thinking.

– I liked that the coaches are fun.

If you know a girl who would benefit from joining a Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole team this fall, be sure to check out the site location and registration information.

Thank you to all our “Guys” and “Dolls”!

We hosted a fantastic Guys vs. Dolls Celebrity Bartender event in July which raised over $900 for our fall program scholarships! Many, many thanks go out to our eight celebrity bartenders and to all our guests who came out to support them!

Our fall program will be starting soon and we expect over 500 girls to participate at school and community sites across central Illinois. Over 150 families will seek scholarship support to offset the program fees. You can help us ensure ALL girls can benefit from our healthy lifestyle and physical activity program by donating to our fall scholarship fund.

Thank you again to all our bartenders and patrons who supported Guys vs. Dolls!

Girls on the Run Welcomes New Staff Member

Girls on the Run of Central Illinois is excited to welcome Sarah Brust as Office Administrator. In her role as Office Administrator, Sarah will be managing the finance, administrative, IT, and facilities functions at Girls on the Run.  She received her Bachelors in Business Administration with a minor in Accountancy at the University of Illinois Springfield where she worked in a similar role at the Sangamon Auditorium. Before returning to school to receive her degree, Sarah was a preschool teacher for five years in Springfield. At Lake Shore Learning Center, she taught and cared for children ages six weeks to twelve years old in the areas of physical, emotional, and social development through lessons geared at physical activity, team building, and personal empowerment.

Although she doesn’t label herself a runner, Sarah runs on her treadmill three mornings a week (she laughs that no one needs to see that) in order to push herself physically. She does love walks with her two beagle-mixes every evening and takes them on a trail walk every Sunday where they can sniff to their hearts’ content while she enjoys the surroundings. Being active helps her perform her best, and she is excited to have the opportunity to do her best to support the staff here at Girls on the Run in the amazing work they do with young girls!
